Hello all and welcome to the High Post green-keeping blog.
I aim to be as informative as possible, keeping you, the members, as up to date with all the activity and work that is being undertaken on your course.
The inaugural entry is a slightly controversial one, in that is a significant change to the course. The restoration of the dew pond left of the 16th fairway!!
Apologies for the different views but beneath are the traditional before and after images.
The dew pond was a feature of the land long before the golf course existed.
The gradual invasion of hawthorn scrub over many years eventually obscured the dew pond. The removal of the scrub has given the impression of a drastic change!
Aeration continues.......
one of the main factors in bringing the course up to the standard that is expected is an extensive aeration programme.
the 11th undergoing deep aeration with the verti-drain.
A regular schedule of both deep and shallow aeration is essential for establishing stronger turf by encouraging deeper rooting. This will aid the more desirable grasses, the fescue, in competing against the less desirable, shallower rooting and invasive meadow and rye grasses.
The by-product of the operation is to produce a freer draining profile which aids in the greens being playable all year round.
